New Governmental Emphasis on Early Childhood Education

Sierra Leone is bouncing back from a brutal 10-year civil war, which left the education structure most affected. There is an urgent need for an updated early childhood education teacher training curriculum to train pre-school teachers and educators

Early childhood education is new on a national level in Sierra Leone.  There are some small privately-owned programs but now the government is looking at doing a national program.  Rotary Club member Joan Parris, director of early childhood education at Norwalk Community College recently hosted a group of teachers from Sierra Leone, observing some preschools in Norwalk, Connecticut.
